Do You Need an Aquarium Chiller?

Aquarium Chiller

Many fish and other types of marine life come from waters that are cold in temperature. To ensure the health of your fish you may need an aquarium chiller to keep the water at an ideal, cool temperature for your fish and other marine life. Your fish can easily get sick or even die if the water temperature gets too hot in your tank. Aquariums can overheat easily, especially in the hot summer months. Excess heat from aquarium lights and aquarium pumps can contribute to the warm water temperatures. It is important to know what heat level is appropriate for your fish. A thermometer is an essential tool for your custom aquarium. Global Aquaria carries a wide variety of thermometers, including floating and stick on digital types. There are even tools on the market currently that can sound an alarm if the water in the tank gets too hot or cold.

Choosing the Correct Aquarium Pumps

Aquarium Pumps

In order for fish to remain healthy they must have clean, well circulated water in which to live. If you have purchased or are planning to purchase a large custom aquarium it is advisable to get recommendations for the proper aquarium pumps for your system and fish. If, however, you are a hobbyist with a fairly small tank it is possible for you, with a little research, to determine the proper type and size of pumping device for your tank. Air pumps and water pumps are the two basic types of pumps that can be used on your home tank. Air pumps are connected to under gravel plates via plastic tubing to provide filtration for small acrylic fish tanks. A water pump, also called a powerhead, works by circulating water to provide aeration and filtration within the aquarium system. Some systems will require a combination of the two types of pumping devices to be effective in providing a healthy environment for your fish. The use of a powerhead pump may add excess heat to the water, increasing the need for an aquarium chiller.
